Sentence Types and Structures

  1. declarative- makes a statement
  2. interrogative- asks a question
  3. imperative- gives a command
  4. exclamatory- expresses strong feelings

    predicate- what is said about the subject

    Clause- a subject and a predicate

    independent clause- could be a sentence
    dependent clause- needs another clause to be a sentence.

    simple- one (independent) clause

    complex- one independent clause and at least one other dependent clause
